Cold brew coffee has taken the coffee lover world by storm, and it's easy to see why! With its unique flavor profile and refreshing character, it's become a hit.
Unlike regular hot coffee, which is brewed with hot water, cold brew is made by steeping ground coffee beans in cold water for a long time. Pretty cool, right?
The process is simple: you start with coarsely ground beans, soak them in water and wait patiently for 12 to 24 hours.
This slow extraction at room temperature or in the refrigerator allows the coffee beans to slowly release their flavor.
What you get is a concentrated coffee liquid that you can dilute with water or milk, depending on how strong you want it.
What makes cold brew truly special is its smoothness and low acidity. Because it's extracted slowly, you get less bitterness and acidity, which are often found in hot coffee.
The result? A silky, sweeter flavor that even those with sensitive stomachs can appreciate. Delicious, right?
And the best part? Cold brew is super versatile! You can pour it over ice for a cool treat, or even heat it up if you're craving a hot cup.
It's popular in coffee shops everywhere, and many people enjoy experimenting with different beans and extraction times to find their perfect flavor.
In short, Cold Brew coffee gives a whole new twist to your coffee experience.
With its velvety texture and surprisingly refreshing taste, it's a great choice whether it's a summer afternoon or just a morning when you want to try something different.
Cold brew is a refreshing change of pace for coffee lovers everywhere. Why not give it a try?
AeroPress Cold Brew coffee offers a refreshing and flavorful alternative approach to traditional coffee brewing.
What makes AeroPress Cold Brew so special is the cold coffee extraction method. Instead of using hot water, the coffee is slowly steeped in cold water over a period of time.
This results in a less acidic and less bitter coffee, with a refreshing and flavorful profile. But what's truly special about this specific AeroPress recipe is that it only takes 2 minutes, while a regular cold brew often takes at least 8 hours.
To make AeroPress Cold Brew coffee, it's important to know the correct proportions and extraction time.
The process involves grinding fresh coffee beans, adding water, and patiently waiting while the coffee extracts.
The result is a concentrated coffee that can be diluted with cold water or ice, depending on your personal preference.
If you're looking for a new way to enjoy coffee on hot summer days or simply long for a refreshing alternative, AeroPress Cold Brew coffee is definitely worth a try.
In the following chapters, we will guide you step-by-step through the process of making this refreshing drink.
To make the perfect AeroPress Cold Brew coffee, start by grinding your favorite coffee beans. Ideally, choose freshly roasted specialty coffee .
A coarse grind is often recommended, similar to the texture of sea salt, but in this particular recipe, Aeropress recommends a fine grind.
It takes some time to find the right grind size, but I would go for something between espresso grind and filter grind, so medium fine.
This prevents the water from draining through the AeroPress filter prematurely. In this recipe, we use 15 grams of ground coffee.
Place a paper filter in the AeroPress filter holder, rinse it, and attach it securely to the main cylinder.
Place the AeroPress on a sturdy mug or glass carafe, with the filter holder facing down.
Add 15 grams of ground coffee to the AeroPress.
Slowly pour cold water over the ground coffee in the AeroPress. Ensure the water completely covers the coffee grounds, and pour it up to the number 1 mark on the AeroPress. This is approximately 60 to 70 ml of water.
Now just stir for a minute. This step is incredibly important, so don't skip it.
After the extraction period, turn the other side of the Aeropress and slowly push the plunger down.
Be sure to apply a smooth, even pressure. The result is a concentrated coffee that you can dilute with cold water or ice, depending on your preference.
Add milk, sugar, or other flavorings if desired and enjoy your refreshing AeroPress Cold Brew coffee.
Of course, you can also use the inverted method, which will reduce the problem of water prematurely running through your filter. However, if you choose a really fine grind, you'll experience minimal discomfort.
The timing, the extraction period, of this recipe is truly unique in the cold brew world. Only 2 minutes, as opposed to an entire night or even a whole day!
This is made possible by the fine grind combined with intensive stirring of the coffee. It takes a full minute. That's why it's so important not to skip or shorten this step (number 5).
This way the coffee flavour can still be properly absorbed into the water.
The temperature for Aeropress Cold Brew is quite simple. Generally, you use room-temperature water.
You can of course also use water from the refrigerator, but tap water and then adding ice cubes to your drink afterwards to make it 200-250 ml is a great option!
You can also brew Aeropress with warm water using regular methods, and then let it drip onto ice cubes. But in this Aeropress Cold Brew recipe, we'll focus on brewing with cold water.
Of course, no recipe is perfect, including this one from AeroPress itself. You can also make AeroPress Cold Brew Coffee using the regular method, namely by using a coarser grind and letting it steep overnight. I do recommend the inverted method.
The secret to the perfect cup of Cold Brew coffee with the Aeropress, according to the recipe in this blog, is 4-fold:
- Use filtered tap water, or for example a bottle of Spa Blauw.
- Choose the tastiest specialty coffee beans of your choice, freshly roasted, and grind them just before brewing your Aeropress Cold Brew.
- Experiment with the grind size; it should be quite fine, but of course not so fine that it becomes bitter.
- Stir for exactly one minute so that the flavors can be properly absorbed.
