Now that summer has arrived (well, it feels like it anyway...), all sorts of things are starting to itch. Skirts, dresses, flip-flops, garden chairs, and baby pools... everything is slowly awakening from its winter slumber.
The same goes for drinks. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE coffee! But when it's above 20 degrees Celsius, I crave something refreshing more than a hot drink. That's where the Espresso Tonic came in!
An espresso tonic is as simple as it sounds. It combines the complexity of a good espresso with the refreshing sweetness of tonic!
Combined with some ice and a slice of lime, orange or other citrus fruit, it makes a wonderfully refreshing summer drink.
It's one of the easiest recipes, so you really don't have to be a pro cocktail maker to make this one.
Supplies:
A double espresso shot made with fresh, high-quality coffee beans. Check out our selection here :-)
Ice cubes
Tonic
A piece of lime / orange / lemon
Step-by-step plan:
Prepare everything well so that you don't have melted ice in your glass (in very hot weather!) or a (not so) fresh espresso.
Place some ice cubes in a chilled glass and pour in a generous amount of tonic water, about 3/4 to 4/5 of the way up the glass.
Cut a piece of citrus fruit of your choice, squeeze it a little into your glass, and then add the rest to your glass so that the flavors of the peel can also be nicely infused into the drink.
Make a double espresso shot (read here how to make the best coffee with a semi-automatic machine) and serve it separately next to your glass with tonic and ice.
The drinker can pour it over themselves for the luxurious experience! ;-)
